Jackson This has been a very difficult season for our Village with the extreme cold and the snow and ice storms we have had to contend with. I thank all residents for their cooperation that has enabled our dedicated Department of Public Works to do the magnificent job they have done in keeping our streets plowed and passable. Please remember that occupants and owners of property are require to remove all snow and ice in front of their respective homes and premises within 5 hours of daylight after a snowstorm. Also, trash is to be placed where it can be reached and in properly sealed receptacles or approved closed trash bags (trash packed with snow cannot be removed). Bottles and cans must be separated from cardboard and plastic bags. Your cooperation will enable those responsible to keep our Village clean throughout this winter season. -Sewer Installation – The 4th Street pump station that will service the East Hillburn area is targeted for completion by the end of February. This will complete sewer project in our Village. This administration spent many long days overseeing the sewer construction to make sure it was properly completed and our streets paved before the arrival of winter. Again, the cooperation and patience of our residents during this project is greatly appreciated. 2011 VILLAGE ELECTION – March 15, 2011 Office to be filled: Office of Mayor - 2 Year Term Office of Trustee - 2 Year Term Election Day: Tuesday, March 15, 2011 – 12:00noon to 9:00PM – Hillburn Municipal Building NOTICE: There will be no Registration Day for the 2011 Village Election. All residents who would like to register to vote can obtain a Voter Registration Form at the Village Office. By completing the form and sending it to the RC Board of Elections, you will be registered to vote in all elections. VILLAGE BUDGET The 2011-2012 Village Budget is under preparation. A Public Hearing will be held on the Budget on Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Interested residents should attend this meeting. HILLBURN SENIOR CITIZENS ORGANIZATION - Mary Boone, Acting President 357-2390 Meetings are held in the Community Room, 37 5th St at 7PM. (HFD building) Meeting Schedule: Feb. 7th, March 7th, March 21st, April 4th and April 18th February 7th Meeting - HFD Chief L. Winters spoke on fire safety/smoke alarms (free installation for Hillburn Senior Citizens). Also, Attorney Arnold Edelson was present and spoke on Elder Law. March 21st Meeting - RC Department of Health - Healthy Neighborhood Program presentation by Christine Wagner and Shari Stopler. HILLBURN YOUTH CENTER – Angela Flanagan & Michelle Noel 368-3679 The Youth Center would like to say a special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Conklin and the USMC League for the donation of toys that helped to make our Christmas celebration with Santa a great success! Please join us for our annual Easter Egg Hunt at Veterans Memorial Park on April 16th at 11am. Open registration for the After School Program continues. The fee is $50 Per child. For information please call the Youth Center. Preparation is beginning for the 2011 Summer Program. Additional information will be available soon. HILLBURN COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – David K. Farrison, Chair The Scholarship Committee has already begun planning our 10th annual Hillburn Community Scholarship Award. We are proud to name the 2011 Award in honor of Travis E. Jackson. Dr. Jackson was born in Hillburn, and educated in the Suffern School District. He went on to receive his doctorate, and has marked a distinguished career as an educator, administrator, coach and mentor. Dr. Jackson has a long history of advocating for Hillburn Youth, which includes volunteering as a tutor at our Youth Center and actively serving as a charter member of the Hillburn Community Scholarship Committee. Details of this year's Award will be mailed to you soon. With the help of your generous annual donations we can continue to provide this vital community program to assist Hillburn Youth achieve higher education. HILLBURN HISTORICAL SOCIETY – Beverly Flanagan, Chairperson There will be an Open House on March 20, 2011 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM. This is an opportunity to share memories of Hillburn and bring items of significance and tell about them. All meetings and the Open House will take place in the Hillburn Community Room. Refreshments will be served. The Society welcomes everyone to its program. If you are interested in joining, please call Beverly at (845) 357-1968. HILLBURN FIRE DEPARTMENT – Laurens Winter, Chief Free Smoke Alarm Distribution & Installation Program – Residents may apply for free smoke detectors available through the Hillburn Fire Department in association with the NYS Fire Prevention and Safety Program. Applications and Waiver of Liability forms are available at the Village Office. Forms must be completed (indicating the number of floors and number of bedrooms in the home) and returned by 2/28/11. This meeting is being held to provide information regarding the availability of affordable housing to be constructed at 62 Sixth Street, Hillburn, NY. ANNUAL CLEAN UP DAY – Saturday, April 16, 2011 (Rain Date: Saturday, April 23, 2011) Volunteers are needed to help with the annual spring cleaning of our Village. We will meet at the Youth Center at 8:30AM and wrap up with lunch at 12:00 noon. NEW BULK TRASH PICK-UP SCHEDULE Bulk Trash will now be picked up on a quarterly basis. Upcoming pick-up dates are as follows: April 21st July 21st October 20th ONLY THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WILL BE PICKED UP: Furniture, household appliances, large appliances (such as refrigerators with doors removed, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers and hot water tanks). *Lawn Mowers must be drained of gasoline and oil prior to being placed at curbside for pick-up. Garden, yard and lawn waste such as tree branches and brush. Branches are to be no larger than 2" in diameter (all brush must be cut and tied into 4' sections) THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP: Construction debris, including sheet rock, lumber, roof shingles, concrete, bricks, and *tires (it is the homeowners' responsibility to see that construction debris and *tires are disposed of properly). Do not place these materials at curbside. REMINDERS -RE: Snow Removal – Occupants of property within the Village, and all owners of unoccupied premises within the Village are required to remove all snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of the premises. -Residents are requested to keep the fire hydrants in front of their homes free of snow and ice. -RE: Garbage – Garbage is to be placed in proper receptacles and placed at curbside no earlier than the evening before the scheduled pickup and removed from curbside within 24 hours of pickup.
